上河阳戏是怀化地区的地方剧种，角色以小丑、小生、小旦，“三小”为主。大型剧目里面也有老生、老旦、书生、武旦、花脸。

Shanghe Yang Opera is a local genre of opera popular in Huaihua Area.The characters mainly fall into three categories: Xiaochou(clown), Xiaosheng(young male) and Xiaodan(young female).But in large repertoire, they also include Laosheng(old male), Laodan(old female), Shusheng(student), Wudan(female role who plays martial arts), Hualian(painted face).

上河阳戏音乐高亢、明亮、朴实、诙谐，传统的曲目有《扯笋》《刘海砍樵》等。2006年，上河阳戏被列为湖南省省级非物质文化遗产名录。

The music of the opera is strong, high-pitched, primitive and jocular.Traditional repertoires include "Pulling Bamboo Shoots" and " Woodcutter Liu Hai". In 2006, Shanghe Yang Opera was listed in the Hunan Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage List.（朱闻芩 杨柳）
